Step One (2001)

California Institute of the Arts, Valencia, CA.
A live performance that consisted of multiple vocalists and musicians. The musicians formed a loose circle around the vocal performers who began by giggling into their microphones. The musicians then began layering in their improvisational instrumentation. These layers of sound built to a ear piercing static. The white noise progressed for over 6 minutes. The performance ended with a visual cue and all the sound stopped simultaneously. This chaotic spectacle addresses the subject of abundant information being exponentially projected and its ability to become exhilerating, confusing, hysterical and even unpleasant while the information being displayed progresses from familiar sound into noise.
