Human Sounds for Communication (2001)
performance
The John Raitt Theatre, Hollywood CA.
Being influenced by Rock singers and their use of screaming to amplify an emotional idea I broke down this element to its basic form of the human voice. I focused on subtle nuances of language which communicate specific intensions or emotions. The nuances used are not official dictionary defined words but are still recognizable as communicative and expressive language. When they are layered on top of one another, multiplied and exponentially repeated the communication becomes indecipherable and chaotic. Metaphorically, the spectacle created addresses the topic of vocal communication, the abundance of information and its ability to become overwhelming.
